About me
Mario Simon studied German, literature and cultural studies, film and media studies, and philosophy at the University of Bonn, the Technical University of Dortmund and in Hagen. In Bonn, he worked from 2010-2011 on the research project "Mediatized Worlds" - Deliberation on the Net: Forms and Functions of Digital Discourse Using the Example of the Microblogging System Twitter" of the German Research Foundation.
From 2003 to 2007, he was not only the guitarist of the punk band Anewhope, but also took care of booking, marketing and social media marketing. From 2009 to 2013, Mario Simon was involved in the areas of social media marketing, stage management and video at the alternative Dortmund carnival Geierabend, and also worked as a technical, equipment and camera assistant on various productions for Westdeutscher Rundfunk, among others.
He gained his first experience as an assistant director at the Fletch Bizzel Theater in Dortmund. Mario Simon first worked for Schauspiel Dortmund during the filming of Some Messages to the Universe (director: Kay Voges, Best Production NRW Theatertreffen 2013, 2nd place Experimental Film Sunset Film Festival Los Angeles), and has been a permanent member of the ensemble since 2013, and artistic director of the media department since 2014.
In Dortmund, he worked with directors Kay Voges (4.48 Psychosis and The Feast, Disgraced, The Borderline Procession, The Parallel World), Claudia Bauer, Jörg Buttgereit and Klaus Gehre, as well as with the director collective sputnic and Marcus Lobbes. For Kay Voges' Die Show, Mario Simon worked with director of photography Voxi Bärenklau for the first time.
In addition to the productions in Dortmund, Simon also worked on the production Fuck the Facts at the Neuköllner Oper under the direction of Christian Römer and on the production Aida at the Staatsoper Hannover under the direction of Kay Voges.
The last production Mario Simon was involved was RCE (Remote Code Execution) at the Berliner Ensemble in 2024
On October 16, 2017, Mario Simon was awarded the North Rhine-Westphalia State Prize in the category of theater.
Since April 2019, Mario Simon has been responsible for audiovisual media technology and media production at the Academy for Theater and Digitality.
